What MSCL App collects, why, and what never leaves your phone.
When you create your profile the app asks for your age, sex, height, weight, target weight, training level, available equipment, goal, sleep times and notification preferences. This data is used only to calculate your workouts, meals, macro targets and daily water goal. It is stored on your device. It is not uploaded to our servers.
When you scan a meal, the photo is sent over an encrypted connection to our server (api.msclapp.com) and forwarded to an AI vision provider (currently Anthropic, PBC) to identify the food and estimate portions. The photo is processed and discarded; we do not store it. We keep a one-way hash of the photo together with the nutrition result so that the same photo scanned again returns instantly without a new AI call, an anonymous per-user counter to apply the fair-use limit, and technical logs (timestamp, model used, token counts, response time). The identifier sent with each scan is a random ID generated by the app, not your name or email.
Barcode lookups are answered from the Open Food Facts database. Only the barcode number is sent.
With your permission the app reads heart rate, resting heart rate, HRV, sleep, steps and workouts from Apple Health, and writes workouts, water and nutrition back. Health data is read and used on your device only. We never transmit Apple Health data to our servers or to any third party.
Payments are handled by Apple through the App Store. We do not see or store your card details. Apple's privacy policy applies to the purchase.
If you leave your email on msclapp.com to get the app, we store that email (via Netlify Forms) to send you the download link and launch news. You can ask us to delete it at any time. The website uses no advertising or tracking cookies.
Reminders (water, workout, protein, fruit, sleep log) are scheduled locally on your device. They can be switched off in the app or in iOS Settings.
Profile, meals, hydration, sleep and workout history live on your device and are removed when you delete the app. Server-side scan logs are kept for a maximum of 12 months. To delete anything we hold, or to ask what we hold, email info@msclapp.com; we answer within 30 days.
MSCL App is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Depending on where you live (including the EU/EEA under the GDPR and the UAE under the PDPL) you have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data and to object to its processing. Write to info@msclapp.com.
We will post any change to this policy on this page and update the date above. Material changes are also announced in the app.
